Progressive socialism is the social bane of all modern western states. It has risen crime rates, destroyed entire communities and cities while leading to enormous debt and social chaos. Socialism only works when it promotes a healthy and strict social conservative policy to balance the costs. So you want universal healthcare but are fine with the public being unfit and unhealthy? You want to pay people 'not' to work but expect them to have an incentive to work? You want open borders while trying to run a welfare system which legally implies all citizens are entitled to social housing and healthcare which only hard workers have to pay for? You want to mass import people of opposing cultural values who will work for cheaper lowering workers wages but claim to support the worker? You want a cohesive society but allow men and women to practice degenerative sexual social behaviors leading to marriage gaps and growing single adulthood with no future children further leading to a larger aging population with only a small unproductive youth to take care of them? The cognitive dissonance goes on. Progressivism and Equality are shitty policies coupled with any political framework. There is only one good socialism and that is the nationalist kind.

But regardless, the sole reason Clinton had a surplus is because he spent excess social security trust fund savings. The surplus is democratic folklore based on smoke and mirrors. Search "Clinton Surplus Myth" and it will bring up hundreds of articles and data from Phd economists explaining how bogus this myth is. Spending your savings to cover debts you incurred is not a surplus, it's just shifting money around to appear productive. (i will delete this comment later dont worry) As we know, Germany freezed Greek assets in Europe and now they are landing Greece few billions to pursue reforms and austerity, but trick is that money doesnt go there, it goes right back to German banks as a interest rate, thus making more debt to Greece which is already unable to repay. Thats why Greek debt rose from original $300 billion to $315 billion. Thats not close to how other countries are chained in debt like UK, USA or Japan, Greece didnt had to end up like this, but i really dont know what original reason is, why European Union is destroying Greece. Greece is NATO, EU and their ally, why would they kill their ally against Russia and China and make themselves weaker? Thats like Stalin killing Soviet generals in 1940  And yes, Fascist Bulgaria stole million tonnes of food(cattle, crops, food, poultry) from Northern Greece and East Serbia, to feed German Army on Eastern Front. No one payed for that yet i think.

If you want to talk about it, Nazi occupation damage to Greece was huge and war reperations owed to Greece are true and so are the fact Greece was feeding the nazi armies all around. When will people understand this..... Clinton only had a surplus because the REPUBLICAN controlled Congress forced him too. Now Tirpitz pointed out that he had a Democrat controlled Congress during his first term. This is true BUT if you look at the chart provided earliar you will see the surplus did not occur until later in his second term when the Republicans still controlled Congress.

I have to disagree with Tik-Tok's comments. Scandinavian semi-socialism works excellently. The problems that you outlined (increasing crime, declining literacy) can be traced back to immigration, not socialist policies. It can be seen as a form of investment, I guess. Right now they cause massive headaches for the Swedish government, but just give it a few decades... I mean, when the United States took in truly massive numbers of European immigrants after independence, that did increase crime and cause all sorts of problems, but given 40, 70, sometimes maybe 100 years, the descendants of those immigrants were being highly educated, productive, and lawful members of society.

Yes, thats the point. US had large immigratio in 19th century which created society and economy. There is no logic for descendants of immigrants to ban new immigrants to settle US today. Makes no sense. Same with European Union, they promote, no... they CREATED liberalism and free movement, now when people MOVE, they ban them and close borders like USSR and East Germany, building walls and fences. Point is to accept immigrants and 'naturalize' them, its up to system, not political ideology. If country have good system like scandinavians, immigrants wont be a burden. Also, if immigrants are burden to the country, then that mean its country fault, not immigrant, because that mean countrys economy is weak and unable to provide jobs for new workers. Example is US 1800-1900, immigrants werent problem for them, they had jobs and build their lives. If today in 2015 immigrants are problem for US, that mean economy is problem(usually) or bad government decisions, but certainly not immigrants.

It's an equivalent analogy of saying a nation that uses guns for its military isn't socially Darwinist in certain social policies because it refuses to send out unequipped men into war.
